Il nome prende spunto da tutte quelle cose strane di cui alloromanticə e allosessessuali amano parlare e che sembrano palesemente false dal punto di vista dell’esperienza aroasessuale. Il podcast, con grande sorpresa di Costello e Kaszyca, ha avuto molto successo, visto che andava a coprire un piccolo vuoto al quale nessunə aveva mai pensato prima.Il libro prende quindi spunto da questa esperienza: Costello e Kaszyca non hanno alle spalle studi di teoria queer, ma solo la loro vita come persone nello spettro asessuale e/o aromantico che hanno creato un podcast che le hanno messe in contatto con altre persone dello spettro asessuale e/o aromantico. Quindi non aspettatevi disquisizioni accademiche, ma una panoramica di cosa significa nel concreto vivere la vita come asessuale e/o aromanticə al di là delle definizioni.Infatti, il libro si divide in otto capitoli: società, te stessə, amicizia, romanticismo e relazioni, sesso, famiglia, genere e un capitolo finale che tocca brevemente alcuni argomenti (come la rappresentazione nei media). Sono tutti piuttosto brevi, ma mi sono sembrati un buon punto di partenza per chi ha appena letto la definizione e si è chiestə: e ora? Come si traduce in esperienze concrete? Ecco, Sounds fake but okay dà delle dritte in tal senso e potrebbe essere molto utile per chi non se la sente di lanciarsi in libri più accademici.In conclusione, vorrei rassicurarvi in merito alla presunta transfobia presente in questo libro, che gli ha fatto avere un rating ingiustamente basso su Goodreads. Nel sottocapitolo relativo ai media (pagina 146 per la precisione) le autrici discutono che alcune storie, che magari abbiamo molto amato nel passato, viste oggi da un punto di vista aroasessuale possono risultare problematiche, ma questo non può e non deve portarci via il bene che quelle storie ci hanno fatto. A tal proposito, le autrici hanno avuto la malaugurata idea di fare l’esempio di J.K. Rowling, affermando che, sebbene lei sia partita per la sua tangente transfobica, le affinità e il conforto che le persone trans possono aver provato grazie a Harry Potter rimane. Tutti qui: un paragrafetto di otto righe, che nemmeno si sogna di affermare che Rowling ha ragione, ha fatto cadere una pioggia di recensioni negative. Capisco che Rowling sia diventata argomento radioattivo nella comunità LGBTQIA+ – a ragione – ma anche meno, gente. La siepe di moreBuon mercoledì, prodi seguaci!📦Nel lontano 2019, sul fu Twitter, Michael Paramo postò un link dove chiedeva un contributo per la realizzazione di un libro su asessualità, aromanticismo e identità agenere. Come potevo dire di no? Sono entrata su <a href="https://unbound.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Unbound</a>, casa editrice che pubblica libri tramite raccolte fondi, ho fatto la mia donazione e ho aspettato – così tanto che quando mi è arrivata l’email manco mi ricordavo più di questo libro. Ma adesso è qui, nelle mie manine e con il mio nome scritto a pagina 230 e sono irragionevolmente fiera senza aver fatto nulla per esserlo.Ho delle aspettative molto alte per questo libro, per cui ho voluto parlarvene prima di leggerlo – avrei voluto fare la recensione per la settimana della consapevolezza dello spettro aromantico, ma il libro mi è arrivato solo lunedì, quindi non era proprio fisicamente possibile. Paramo è unə ricercatorə, scrittorə, poeta e artista e nel 2016 ha creato <a href="https://azejournal.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">AZE</a>, una piattaforma che pubblica testi e arte di autorə asessuali, aromanticə e ageneri.<a href="https://unbound.com/books/ending-the-pursuit" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ending the Pursuit</a> mira a re-immaginare la sessualità, l’aromanticismo e l’identità agenere senza i confini imposti dalla società. Da un lato, ne ho apprezzato lo stile semplice e sbarazzino, perfetto per introdurre una persona totalmente digiuna – e magari anche un po’ spaventata – all’aromanticismo: Rendle si presenta come un’amica pronta ad accompagnarti nel caos che può essere la propria identità sessuale e che non bada troppo ai formalismi.Come specificato anche nel <a href="https://yt.artemislena.eu/watch?v=P3LIKVoO6aw" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">video</a> dove presenta il suo lavoro, Rendle non si identifica più come aromantica, ma come aroflux – forse. È ancora – o di nuovo – in fase di esplorazione e può essere una testimonianza preziosa per chi non fa coming out perché non è sicurə del proprio orientamento: va bene anche essere confusə, non riuscire a capire o cambiare idea perché nel corso della vita si accumulano esperienze diverse e magari inaspettate.D’altro canto, però, non ho apprezzato il fatto che Rendle facesse così ampio riferimento a Wikipedia. Passi che studi e risorse riguardanti l’aromanticismo siano ridotti all’osso e quindi ci si debba un po’ arrangiare, ma Wikipedia mi sembra davvero una scelta infelice nel momento in cui sono nati diversi siti di attivismo, come <a href="https://www.aromanticism.org/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">AUREA</a> e <a href="https://taaap.org/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">TAAAP</a>, e vari libri che, pur non occupandosi esclusivamente di aromanticismo, contengono anche informazioni sugli orientamenti (a)romantici.Un altro elemento di perplessità per me è stato il fatto che, nonostante sia un libro che mira a raggiungere anche chi non ha familiarità con la comunità LGBTQIA+, non contenga un elenco completo delle opere pop che offrono una rappresentazione dell’aromanticismo. Va bene che sono poche, ma ormai, almeno sul fronte della letteratura, abbiamo diversi esempi da poter citare adesso – soprattutto in inglese. Avrei preferito una maggiore attenzione su questo aspetto.In definitiva, mi sentirei di consigliare Hopeless Aromantic a chi è davvero totalmente digiunə di aromanticismo e volesse cominciare da un libriccino semplice che non va tanto oltre a quello che si può trovare su qualunque blog che parli dell’argomento.
