I always enjoy hearing Great Horned Owls calling & even better—hearing 2 GHOs duetting! Here’s my Perpetual Journal art of 2 GHOs duetting, a Cooper’s Hawk, & a small Mexican Poppy plant.
Sunny and breezy Wednesday up at Whiskeytown Lake. A Common yellowthroat was hunting amongst the berry bushes and popped out briefly for a photo.

Peaceful Moment
Sometimes, the light hits just perfectly. This is a female ruby-throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris), and she seems to be pausing briefly to bask in the sun. Of course, it’s probably less of a pause and more of a fleeting moment—these tiny creatures rarely stay still for long. While I often capture photos around my hummingbird feeders, I especially treasure opportunities like this, when I can photograph them in more natural settings. This particular shot was taken just a few days ago. In addition to nectar, these birds also feed on small insects.
You know, the photographs I post here are not as vivid as the same ones in my Pixel's gallery. This is because I reduce the size and slightly decrease the quality of the photos to make them easier to load. Take a look:
A little more fun with the TTArtisan Mirror Lens. I love the effect it has on the gold grasses, the sand and the trees although it probably doesn't show itself well on a small screen.
By the way, these ducks and I are building a pretty strong rapport, so expect to see more (and hopefully interesting) photos of them in the future.

Good morning.

And then there's Charlie. He has this habit of wandering in whenever he pleases, placing his front paws on my left leg, and staring at me intently. He’s an incredibly needy dog. Sometimes, I wonder if he’s afraid we might send him off to live among the strays we often pass during our walks through the neighborhood or along the road. I think he just wants to check and make sure I’m still here. Here he is again—this time, he’s decided to curl up on the left side of my chair and keep me company. Ben? Ben is older and more independent, though he has his clingy moments too. He doesn’t like being alone and will often bark insistently until I join him in the family room to keep him company.

Just finished #reading Birding with Benefits by Sarah T. Dubb. I enjoyed the little touches that firmly placed it in the #Tucson #birding world. This was the first cis/het #romance I have ever read, and it was definitely far more allosexual than my experience of the world. I skipped some of the chapters my wife had marked as being too spicy for me. But if you like that, give it a read. It was a good modern story with a queer supporting cast that takes the lead in the sequel.
Tuesday midday, rain is tapering off. A male Rufous Hummingbird continues to guard one of the feeders, forcing the other feeder to be refilled 3-4 times a day for the rest of the flock, mostly Anna's and juvenile Rufous.
Let's Talk
These two female indigo buntings (Passerina cyanea) appear to be deep in conversation, perhaps discussing Maybell’s noticeable absence. The cheerful jingle from Hee Haw comes to mind: "We're not ones to go 'round spreadin' rumors."
