Many years ago a man wrote a funny reply to a a Twitter thread pretending not to understand the whole Vietnam-analogy of Star Wars. You could tell he was joking just by opening his Twitter page and scrolling through his older tweets.

Since then I've seen countless people sharing screenshots of that thread making it seem that this joker was being completely serious and clueless.

This bugs me every single time I see it. It is a lesson in not believing every screenshot you see posted on social media but more importantly it shows how de-emphasizing links has corrupted information sharing on the web.

@FAIR Oh yes. They started blocking pro-Palestine and anti-Russia messaging on Ukraine for me a long time ago.

This is of course systematic abuse of reporting tools by automated means or by troll farms in the case of Kremlin.

Facebook refuses to hire enough people to counter the problem, which is just getting exponentially worse by cheap LLM’s able to do the job which you formerly needed a Russian spy for.

I read an article in Rolling Stones magazine (@RollingStone) from 2017 about Elon Musk, "The Architect of Tomorrow." It's very funny to read this today. It reminded me of an argument I had a few years ago with a software developer I respected, because he argued that the guy was a genius and I said he was just a crook. Until recently, in the developer bubble, many people I knew said that the guy buying Twitter would be fantastic for the platform because it would increase freedom of expression. I even saw people I used to work with sharing some of this nonsense.

Isn't it amazing how easily people are manipulated into believing fantasies that help create a myth? And there was a lot of help from the media in all of this. This is the richest man in the world, who some believed wanted to solve humanity's problems, but is helping to destroy US democracy and interfering in that of other countries to go the same way.
