I do recommend friend to use Hetzner as it's very fast to setup, cheap enouch and in case of problems has short intervention times. (I would also love to have a FreeBSD rescue system back like you did originally, though…)

If you are on the fence about doing it, it’s really pretty easy. Hetzner has good Terraform coverage. The part I was a little bit surprised by was the cost difference. Hosted inside the EU, Hetzner is coming in about 60% cheaper than AWS.

My ".me" domain name is not listed. The support answer is 2 iphone screen long…EDIT: so the trick is to "Cancel account" - which is a bit scary when you also have a VPS using this account - and select "transfer domain" to get the Auth Token. Anyway, done that and pasted the token to the dest provider. Now waiting 🤞
