I previously posted about this little hummingbird that has made a nest in my backyard patio for the third year in a row. And since I don’t have my dad to share these with anymore, I decided to share with you all. I HAVE AN EXCITING UPDATE!! Rosie Pearl’s babies have hatched!! Meet the little twins—with eggshell still in their tiny feathers. 😍 Rosie is being a good mom and making sure to keep them feed. Both pictures are of her feeding them. ❤️

The smallest of the bestial human birds, hummingbirds are hyperactive omnivores with a love of all things sweet. Though frequently sporting attractive plumage, their need to consume their own bodyweight in protein and sugars every day means they are constantly on the lookout for food and are considered undesirable guests. As a result, they are seldom welcomed into human communities even when accompanied by humans and human mutants, and must often be covertly carried into a settlement by slipping inside a large companion’s backpack and bedroll.

Two photos of the same male Anna’s hummingbird. The photos were one second apart. The feathers’ iridescence is structural, not from dyes. It’s caused by layers of tiny granules of melanin in the feather barbules. The melanin is dark brown or black. The structure of the granules results in the nearly specular reflection of narrow wavelength bands of light and the absorption of other colours. Unedited images.

A male hummingbird is facing you. His gorget, a hood or cowl surrounding his face is brilliantly red, magenta, orange, and bit purple.
The hummingbird is perched in the same spot but is now turned to face left. His gorged is obvious but it’s a deep brown black colour now.
