Although in Tolkien's day this would all have been farmland, after the war the city grew massively in terms of area. It needed to happen as you couldn't just rebuild the densely packed slums. I just wish the infrastructure wasn't so car centric.

Well today is the day. I'm having my breakfast of porridge and a cup of tea to set me up for my day of adventure. I'm going to follow the local river upstream from where I grew up to Sarehole Mill where Tolkien grew up.
My nerdy friends and I used to talk about all the things around that could have inspired parts of middle earth so I'll try and point some out as I go. That's right I'm going to toot my trip and take you along too.

Two years ago today, we would've been getting married if not for the fact that my bestie (who isn't on Fedi so will avoid the ping of shame) had already booked opera tickets for that date.
We had to move our plans to the following Saturday instead, and April Fool's is a cool wedding anniversary I guess but Gondorian New Year would've been cooler.
