This Is My GlasgowLove this piece of enamel and metalwork on the Scottish Legal Life Assurance Society building on Bothwell Street in Glasgow. David de GrootBack in 2018, I made this very handy mini egg-flip. And for what it was designed to do (flip eggs, move biscuits off trays, etc) it excelled. However, youngest child has been using it to fry steaks and pressing down on the steak in the process, so the thin shank glued in to a turned wooden handle was a weak point. The wood broke. Rather than just make another handle with the same problem, I set about fixing the attachment point. I took some engineering grade stainless bar, and forged down a small part of it and formed a cone, then welded that to the egg-flip shank. The existing wooden handle fits inside beautifully. The SculptorWell for the last 3 days I've been welding to keep warm! This chap is made from engine & plough/harrow parts with the odd nut, bolt & spanner. The SculptorWhilst I'm laid up with the lurgy I thought I'd put together selection of work from 2024.Losing Stanley was devasting but I know he had the best life. Making Nelson the Chameleon was great fun and being asked to carve an old friend in stone was a real privilege. This Is My GlasgowLove the little crocodiles in the canopy of the Govan Cross Fountain in Glasgow. Made at the Denny Iron Works in 1884 by Cruikshanks and Company, it's dedicated to John Aitkin, the first medical officer of health for the Burgh of Govan.
