'Dr. Pai, the director of the McGill Global Health Programs, says he feels uncomfortable with the idea of poaching American scientists.

'"American scientists deserve to work in their own country, not leave their families, feel safe in their own country, be adequately funded [and] respected and rewarded," he wrote on BlueSky.

'But it's a new reality that the world is reckoning with: the U.S. cannot be depended upon to fulfil the role it has for decades.'

CBCTop American scientists just lost their jobs. Canada is rolling out the welcome mat | CBC NewsWhat would it take to bring American scientists north? Increasing research funding — as well as costs for things that make research possible — would be a good start, say experts.

The graph shown below is a bit more technical than the one in my previous post. It illustrates three things:

🟥 First, that global warming in March 2025 was at 1.6°C above the pre-industrial average.

🟥 Second, that average warming over the past 22 months has been 1.61°C, well above the previously hoped for 1.5 limit.

🟥 And third, it also shows that the warming we are currently experiencing should not be as high as it is. Last year’s El Niño has ended, so we *should* have seen global temperatures drop significantly. But they have not.

That's because we are witnessing the total wreckage of Earth’s precious ecosystem. The world you and I were born into is gone forever.

Capitalist commerce and industry, if left unchecked, will ultimately destroy modern civilization, resulting in millions if not billions of human deaths, along with the extinction of countless plant and animal species.

That’s not doomism. It’s reality.
