Grant GulovsenI just finished watching all four episodes of Uzumaki.Highly recommended if you like creepy skin-crawling horror. No jump scares that I can recall. It originally ran in the late ‘90s and was collected into three volumes, commonly available as a “3-in-1” volume today (Viz.)Uzumaki means ‘spiral,’ and the stories are centered around a town that is increasingly haunted by spirals that turn up everywhere. At first the chapters are somewhat discrete stories, but by the end it is a serial tale. If one chapter doesn’t impress, the sheer repetition of spiral, spiral, spiral will unnerve you.Ito has never been my favorite artist, but the concept plays well to his excellent draughtsmanship. His distinctive linework is part of the reason it is difficult to adapt his stories, but the currently running <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Uzumaki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Uzumaki</a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/anime" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#anime</a> (Adult Swim) has done a remarkable job at putting his pages on screen. Possibly as the price of that faithfulness, there’s only 4 episodes to adapt 19 chapters, so there will be significant abridging of the story.

DunlopartThis triptych was a labor of love for me, it took a few months of stopping and restarting. It’s hard to say where this came from, it’s a bit of a mixture of Japanese and coastal influences, kintsugi and uzumaki were both names for this set at one point.
