Airplanista 🇺🇦My newest <a href="https://squawk.mytransponder.com/tags/woodworking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#woodworking</a> project is a fairly large Arbor for one of my wife's many gardens. I have made numerous mistakes already, so it is slow going. I must have been blind when I selected the wood as it is full of giant knots and other defects, Grrrr. And I pre-cut the side slats all 1/8" to 1/4" too short, so remaking all of them cut to fit, like I should have done in the first place.Yes it is fun, but the self-induced glitches are certainly frustrating. It's a bar of what seems to be spring steel, with a pivot at one end, clamped to the back of the fence in the middle. Can anyone enlighten me to what it's for? Ross of OttawaWith success on the melamine-shelf sizing and installation yesterday, I'm also doing a melamine divider for the crash-prone cookie sheet and muffin pans cabinet. Turns out to be a game of millimetres. Can just barely accommodate the spacing between pans, a sliding drawer and my 10kg bag-o-flour holding area. Think I'll pull it off though. Melamine-coated particle board is finicky stuff, but I have the appropriate fasteners and jigs, so it's going pretty smoothly.<a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/woodworking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#woodworking</a>

wedgeAnother house leave, a 1940s/50s armoire, but going back to the first house we bought 17 years ago. When we moved southward the armoire was disassembled and has remained that way since. It’s cool, with curved veneer doors and black lacquer sides, all under a thick coat of varnish, evidently. It was in fragile state. My aim was to restore and turn it into a tool cabinet, but the BIL’s meathead friends wrecked it in the move. Ripped out hinges. Scratches. Ross of OttawaNeeded to figure out a few melamine shelves today, so thought it a good time to buy a couple of new circular saw blades I wanted. Incl a more toothy one for my recently-acquired cordless. (Used)Getting nice clean cuts with it! I've always found the tape & cut method to be more voodoo than valid - instead I use a toothy blade w a sharp pre-score.
