cyHere's something odd. Apparently when speakers are powered, they have a markedly different design, with two separate amplifiers for treble and bass, dividing the frequencies between them before amplification. When anyone has passive, unpowered speakers, they always do the frequency filtering after the big amplification, and it's only all-in-one speakers where they do it before that. Why? Heck if I know. The author of this seems to imply that fiddling with extremely amplified currents takes more expensive components than fiddling with tiny currents before amplification.
