We seemingly recognise the threats posed by climate change which will include mass migration (for survival's sake) - but this ‘study' recognises a large number will suffer - and of course it will be the poorer members of our society. Large numbers of poor dispossesed people - I can't wait!

GOP Senator Slams Republicans for Being “Afraid” of Elon Musk

Senator Lisa Murkowski has some harsh words for her party.
newrepublic.com/post/192950/li

"Senator Lisa Murkowski called out the #tech oligarch in a #press conference... She criticized the mass firing of #federal employees and freezing of federal #funding...

She told reporters... that she knows her willingness to criticize #Musk will likely come with #consequences."

"Remorse we can feel. Regret is what we live. But consequence is what lingers" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Let's talk about the science of regret.

I mean, why not?

It seems like a timely topic.

And I've most recently covered The Science of Stupidity and The Science of Mistakes.

So why not The Science of Regret?

I'm on a roll here. Buyers remorse and all that.

What should we know about regret? What should we understand about its nature, impact, and how our brains process it? After all, we might find ourselves around people (at this moment in time, in particular) who are deep in their emotions of regret, and are now thinking about the consequences.

First, what is the definition and nature of regret? I asked Google Notebook after pulling in a large number of articles and YouTube videos related to the science of regret.

"Regret is a negative emotion stemming from a disappointing life event, unchangeable choices, or things said that can't be taken back. It is a painful experience that includes blaming ourselves for a bad outcome.

Ok, that makes sense.

It went on:

- It's a complex emotion involving sorrow and responsibility for the consequences of one's actions.

- Regret is related to choice; it is felt when a wrong decision is made and one wishes they had decided differently.

- Feelings of regret show increased activity in the medial orbitofrontal cortex of the brain.

OK, since it might seem there is some regret unfolding around some areas of the world right now, faster than ever before, what can we understand about the emotions of those who are going through it? The answer is ... um ... interesting.

How Regret Differs From Other Emotions:

- Regret involves comparison and blame, differing from disappointment, which lacks the element of personal fault.

- While guilt is responsibility for specific wrongdoing and shame is a feeling of being flawed, regret combines elements of both, along with a desire to rectify harm.

...along with a desire to rectify harm... that sounds promising.

But wait. There's a lot more about the science of regret that might help you understand today's world.

"People only understand the full impact of their gravest mistake once they fully experience its painful aftermath." Futurist Jim Carroll

It seems pretty certain that a lot of folks are quickly coming to discover there are big implications to certain decisions.

I won't belabor the point, since we'll probably spend a good part of the year watching folks in the circumstance that fits the reality to be found in today's quote.

Intrigued with this state of affairs, I decided to go off and explore the science of mistakes. And wouldn't you know it -there is a scientific report about the science of mistakes called, well, The Science of Mistakes.

I dug into the report and a few other sources about the neurological and other basis for mistakes, and discovered some fascinating things.

First and foremost, mistakes that are good for you. But they can also be bad for you. Not only that, some people repeat the same bad mistakes over and over again, never learning from those mistakes until some real damage has been done.

Let's dig in - because these can be valuable innovation & leadership lessons. They might also provide some insight into how we found ourselves in this volatile year.

It's pretty clear to countless people that 2025 is the year of the big mistake.

Carefully study today's post quote.

You'll know what I mean.

#NoKingsDay #washington #DC 2025-02-17 in a #bigbrother 1984 #orwellian #digital #dictatorship, no one would see anything of this #protests, all the big media conglomerates, search engines would censor it :( question: why did those peaceful protesters not try to turn over the gov and storm congress? (just asking, probably because they are intelligent unlike the january 6 rioters)

BUT if #Trump and #republicans keep ignoring LEGITIMATE grievances of #citizens like higher and higher #food and #fuel prices = imho companies using #inflation as excuse to increase prices without transparency = #corruption of the #middleman: when is #DOGE gonna investigate that???

u gonna have a violent #civilwar like #riot at your hand Mr #TrumpRegime

because #citizens then have nothing to lose and the #FrenchRevolution did not go well for the #King

PLEASE THIS TIME, THINK ABOUT WHAT KIND OF SYSTEM U WANT AFTER THE #REVOLUTION :)

1. best as possible #education of the masses very important for #democracy to work ask #Socrates infosec.exchange/@Linknation/1

2. no more parties: only proven #competent #truthful #honest people can be candidates voted for highest jobs in government

3. make new innovative #finance systems (can be multiple) the current central bank FIAT money is #fascist and not serving the people (#Fascism = fasces = concentration of power in hands of (unelected?) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasces

4. every #citizen should be given small plot of land for free to grow food and build a house on

5. no more stockmarket, all businesses and banks need to be run by proven #competent #responsible actors democratically elected by their employees

#Trump + #Elonmusk START FOCUSING ON THE PROBLEMS OF THE #POOR + #ECONOMY NOW! with smart new ideas of #finance

or face dire catastrophic #disaster #consequences

#demonstrations #protests #protest #usa #politics #politik #trump #musk #elonmusk

The chaotic disintegration (in the technical vernacular) of complex, highly integrated systems is frequently misunderstood - until the consequences of apparently small changes (the temporary closure of the Suez Canal being one) are felt.

Predictions is extremely difficult and small changes in highly coupled systems can be catastophic.

I expect the billionaires in their bunkers will end up as bodyguard food.

@AsahiLinux It's sad to hear, but I'll accept that decision.

  • Please sent him my regards, cuz he's being missed already in the Fediverse (maybe he rejoins on a more private account, IDK...)

Let him, know he's based af and that the way @linuxfoundation handled the "Anti-#Rust - Gang" is just inexcuseable and that I wish for @torvalds et. al. to not just take notes but actual #consequences given that the reasons that made @marcan@treehouse.systems quit are systemic!

If I'm #southkorea what's the advantage at this point to privileging the US over #China? The nice thing about a democracy is that they generally have to operate by rational principles. That's not the case with this administration. Xi's a monster, but Trump is making him look measured, rational.

I'm talking about a country I know a little something about, but they are not the only ones who will be asking these questions. (See: SE Asia) #tradewar #tyranny #consequences
