I've just retired from 40 years in Japanese higher education. I'm happy, however, because I'm completely healthy. I just had a catheter operation that fixed the irregular heartbeat that was concerning for several months.

I still belong to the EU-Asia digital partnerships grant project, and a long presentation on Japan to students from California is scheduled for May.

I'm already back to outdoor activities, as you can see with these photos of sakura cherry blossoms in the castle ruins park near our house.

Ihr Lieben, Samstag und Sonntag habe ich zum ersten Mal mein Soloprogramm HeartBeat auf die Bühne gebracht. Das waren unvergessliche Momente für mich, jedoch...
Leider kamen weniger Menschen als wir erhofft hatten und die Spenden des Publikums decken nur einen Bruchteil unserer Ausgaben. Eintrittsgelder wollen wir für unsere Konzerte nicht verlangen, damit diese für alle Menschen zugänglich sind. Bisher funktionierte das meist.
Dass wir uns Noten, Begleitungen, Kostüme, Requisiten, die Miete für unseren Proberaum und die Auftritts-Orte und mehr leisten können, verdanken wir den Spenden, die wir im Rahmen unserer Auftritte erhalten. Doch diesmal benötigen wir zusätzliche Hilfe.

The rhythmic expansion and contraction of Antarctic sea ice is like a heartbeat.

But lately, there’s been a skip in the beat. During each of the last two summers, the ice around Antarctica has retreated farther than ever before.

And just as a change in our heartbeat affects our whole body, a change to sea ice around Antarctica affects the whole world.

Neither wanted an abortion, but that didn’t matter. Though proponents insist the laws protect both the life of the fetus & the person carrying it, in practice, #doctors have hesitated to provide care under threat of #prosecution, #prison & professional ruin.

I loved the ML in Vincenzo & that’s why I watched Heartbeat.

Unfortunately, that's my feeling on "Heartbeat." The scenery & settings were great. The ML's costuming was gorgeous. There were interesting side characters, witty lines, & some swoon-worthy moments. The 1st half was very entertaining, but the 2nd half floundered. The side characters didn't have stories of their own. No parallel or contrasting 2nd storyline to emphasize the 1st. Aside from the 2 leads, there was minimal character development. Vampire lore was minimal & made up for convenience. The acting was very good. Taecyeon does most of the heavy lifting here, but the other actors were believable & did well with what they were given.
