Sala Rusconi

In the Archiginnasio there is a room called the Sala Rusconi. Named after Pietro Giacomo Rusconi (1865-1916), it contains many rare and valuable books and manuscripts which were collected by him. These were donated to Bologna after the death of his wife Luisa Verzaglia in 1919 - as the couple had not had any children. You unfortunately cannot go into the room now but you can peek through the iron bar door from the Sala Stabat Mater.
The portrait you see over the door is Rusconi himself.
I wanted to give the photo the feel of an old-fashioned illustration to compliment the treasures and antiquities in this library.

(Per quelli che sanno un po' di dialetto bolognese, non trovate un po' ironico che ci sia una sala così piena di saggezza e storia e si chiama... Rusco... ni. 😂)

Manuscript sold for €300 is now attributed to Cyrano de Bergerac – but questions remain about the play’s authorship

French researchers recently published an edition of a previously unknown 17th-century French play that they argue could be attributed to the French satirist and dramatist Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac.

@overholt According to the story, there are 40 or so surviving manuscripts of this text. While I do find fascinating this photographic technique to re-create what the manuscript looked like (and the technique has been used on other manuscripts), I also kept thinking about all those texts for which we have one surviving copy (or none), and how hopefully we might find even rarer gems inside these Renaissance bindings.

I'm specifically looking for folio 171va which has [the part I need of] Ep. 8.11, with Sidonius Apollinaris' eulogy of his friend Lampridius.

Thanks! Tina Chronopolous wrote about the glosses there in the Edinburgh Companion to Sidonius Apollinaris (p. 657).
