Their findings challenge the classical dogma that the molecular motor myosin is essential for the movement of mammalian cells. This insight paves the way for new strategies to control cell movement, with potential implications for the treatment of diseases. The team reports their findings in the leading physics journal Physical Review Letters.

Our article on the #mechanics of "active" entropic biopolymer networks [possibly including #actomyosin, this is debated experimentally] is now published in J Elas.

Compared to enthalpic models, we're able to go right from the #thermodynamics of an unbiased #molecularMotor activity (in the spirit of the model by #JacquesProst for #myosin) at the molecular scale to a network-scale model in a closed form.

And we derive a method for solving quite easily the (usually tough) #viscoelastic #liquid model that we obtain, using #deformationGradientDecomposition.

The microstructure is made of entropic chains which form a network but can transiently unbind, relax and rebind. Together with affine deformations in the velocity graident, this gives a viscoelastic liquid rheology. What we add is the flux $j_a$ created by molecular motors.
