#GameDesign people and #gamers, genuine question: what makes games fun to play for you? Not just videogames, any games! Please boost!
A short summary of answers I got elsewhere
Being able to practice skills in a playful and safe environment.
This is so essential to play that people tend to forget this is a thing and resort to safe, old mechanics based on classic "gamer skillz".

Easy to understand rules. 15 pages of instructions before even starting ain't it.
YES. I mean, some may find exciting spending hours debating the interpretation of the rule book, but most gamers want to play sooner rather than later – though they make sense for some games!
A good amount of customization options
Carving your own path through the game in a skin and environment that feel yours is important for immersion. This isn't always possible to a great extent, but there is no reason not to try.

Exploring! Being surprised!
A rich and responsive environment greatly contributes to making the game world feel real and lived. You don't need a massive sandbox, sometimes a room packed with secrets is all you need!

I'll likely have some more but you keep them coming! #GameDesign #QuestionTime #Fun #Games
