In a side note, every time I look at or mention my miniature PC, I’m reminded of this moment from #Blakes7 in which the supercomputer Orac shrinks itself to one-eighth of its normal size for stealth.
@Natasha_Jay looking back on it,. it was very anti-colonialist. Definitely wouldn't be made today, though it should.
Last I heard Sky had the rights to it 10-15 years ago....
Just finished rewatching Series 1 of Blake's Seven , and Orac appears in the final episode ... though I'm sure his voice changed later on. Also he appears to have 4 USB slots (?) which was good in 1978.
If you can overlook cheap sets and props and that it's a bit "Shakespeare in Space", there's a lot of good things. Paul Darrow (Avon) and Jackie Pearce (Servelan) both magnificent. Stephen Greif (Travis, in S1) too.
I personally have no practical use for this WHATSOEVER… but I bought it nonetheless.
Massive sound library from the #BBCRadiophonicWorkshop. It is so cool!

Blakes 7 - The 70s Sci-Fi Show That KILLED All Its Heroes And SHOCKED The BBC!
@blakes7bot Always a boost for #MaximumPower #Servalan in #Blakes7
"When Star Wars came out, one of our directors was close to tears’: how we made Blake’s 7"
(Sally Knyvette, played Jenna) The “booster” controls I used while flying the Liberator were actually Anglepoise lamps. I’d push them forward and they’d come off in my hands. We ended up with two guys sitting out of shot on either side of my chair, holding on to their other ends. Also, when I pressed any buttons on the console it would wobble, so I had to find a way of making it look like I was pressing hard when actually I wasn’t

But seriously I am most of the way through Series 1 and it's surprising good! Time to resume viewing ...

"The BBC had commissioned Blake’s 7 as a replacement for its police series Softly, Softly: Task Force and we inherited its budget. The largest expenditure on Softly had been one character’s gabardine raincoat"

#Blakes7 season 1 finale: #Orac
Blake and Cally teleport to the surface of the planet Aristo, which looks like a quarry. There is an #obelisk.
Blake: "Some sort of obelisk, I suppose."
Apart from this one line of dialogue, no further reference is made to the obelisk and its purpose is never explained.
Was the obelisk in the script? Or did it just happen to be standing in the quarry for some random reason, and it is Gareth Thomas, not Blake, who makes the remark?
@RikerGoogling
You mean a graphite writing stick?
I've really no idea.

Also I'm obsessed with Pearce's motion here when she removes her mask. All style.
Jacqueline Pearce is great as the evil but glamorous President of the Federation. She sells the heck out of it and gives each line multiple meanings that aren't there on the page. It's amazing.
Another quality charity shop find
I do want to single out this establishing shot of a city in the episode "Moloch" as the single worst VFX in the entire run of Blake's 7 and maybe any scifi show of the 80s. Truly upsetting
1978?! OMG. #blakes7
Yes, I have preordered the Blu-ray. Hope I still have a blu-ray player somewhere.
