Circling high overhead at my son’s ultimate tournament this weekend, this red-tailed hawk was the first of the raptors that we saw. Stayed high, making it a challenge to get with the RF 100-400mm lens I had on the camera to shoot the frisbee action.
Taken at my son’s ultimate (frisbee) tournament this weekend. During a gap between the games, I wandered the perimeter and happened upon this little oak titmouse in a tree. It stayed there long enough for me to get a few different poses, and then flew away.
These were all shot hand-held with the RF 100-400mm.
Of all the birds that come to the tree, this little Anna’s hummingbird is proving to be the bravest. Happily sitting just outside the window, and not moving even when I open it or move around with the camera.
Standing tall. Another shot of the egret on the beach in Kamakura from our Japan trip. In this one it had waded out into the stream that was running into the sea.
Slept in today (after not sleeping much until after 4am), so no new bird photos from our autumnal tree today. Instead, here is a buttterfly photo from Tokyo. An Asian comma.
A chestnut-backed chickadee diving from the tree down to the bird feeder below for a quick bite to eat.
Not immediately obvious from photos, but these Anna’s hummingbirds are tiny. Look carefully and you can see it is perching not on a branch, but on the stem of a leaf.
An Anna’s hummingbird surveying the area from the top of our tree after the morning rain earlier this week.
House finches are still the most common visitors to our tree.
