Future Thorn's time-traveling adventures!

...A bunch of these are from previously-drawn appearances in the comic throughout the years, but I drew new versions of the panels here. Wanted his journey to feel like it flowed smoothly together.

Future Thorn (thinking): This mission is the whole reason I time-jumped in the first place, and I don’t get any do-overs. No pressure.

??? (future flashback): It has the same enchantment Acai would’ve put on it. Should work the exact same way. I already programmed in the date.

Narration: Not far back enough.

Too far back!

Not even the right country.

Future Thorn (thinking): Okay. Took a while. But that’s a good sign, right? Just like she predicted, probably.

Narration: Wrong country and centuries early.

Overshot again. But only by a couple seasons this time!

Too early, but maybe I was supposed to intervene here.

Definitely not supposed to intervene . . . but I can stop and watch, right?

“Works exactly the same way,” my foot.

Told this story from one angle, came back in 4 months and retold it from another. ( #LeifAndThorn spoilers!)

(POVs Dex for strip 1, Kudzu for strips 2-3.)

Dex (narrating): The agent in Montmere got to know the locals — the people most affected by Northwind’s manipulation of the industry.

He even met Kudzu Carvi. Not while he was on duty as Northwind’s “morale officer.” Just in his ordinary life.

The agent was able to subtly press Kudzu for inside details without blowing his cover. For a while, it worked very well.

Then he got caught.

Kale (narrating): And then, Northwind blows it.

They’ve arrested someone. A drug smuggler and a corporate spy. They want me to . . . neutralize him.

Did they get overconfident about how much sway they had over me? Or did they not know he was one of the only people left I cared about?

I could compel him to tell the truth, but it’s faster to just do some high-speed rifling through his mind. The Northwind higher-ups all have personal mental shields by now. I look through all of them, too.

I get the full truth of a lot of things.

Kale (narrating): This is when I decided I was going to make everything okay again — in the only way I knew how.

Nobody would notice the pile of bodies on the floor. Other Northwind employees would fill the leadership vacuum, and end their horrifying policies. Without thinking about why.

All of this was a huge change with wide-ranging effects, so nobody could be allowed to notice those either . . . Oh, and I didn’t want anyone remembering any reason to look into me too closely . . .

Someone told me later that I touched almost every mind within the Montmere city limits.

And this time, I had enough power to not let them go.
