Jer 🚵🏼<p>Morning mtb ride with friend ended on a costly note when rear triangle of her fat bike hit a bit of rock in a tricky section and caved in a threaded insert. @ascentale @bikenite A1. #BikeNite Posting from Ventura County, California, as usual. Had some pretty light attendance this last week with my bike team practice group. I have 19 kids on my group roster and one day we had 2 kids and 5 coaches. Spring Break, injuries, illness, school work, multi-sport kids that only show up some days, etc. Kind of a shame because we're getting ready for a race in a week, but life gets in the way sometimes.

On the plus side, since the practice groups have been smaller we've been able to combine groups some days, which is fun. The kids get to socialize with others on the team that they might not normally ride with. (We break up the team into smaller practice groups otherwise we would overwhelm the trail systems.)

The open space in our area is very scenic right now. Green, with lots of flowers blooming. Great time to be out riding. I think we'll only have a few more weeks before it starts getting overgrown in places. #MTB #BikeTooter

Members of the Newbury Park High School mountain bike team ride in the Western Plateau area of Thousand Oaks, CA. The landscape is green with weed grass and not yet blooming mustard. The trail is not quite overgrown, but will be in a few weeks. 4/12/2025
3 Newbury Park High School mountain bike team female riders are with a coach (me) on the Lower Butte Trail, Thousand Oaks, CA. The area is surrounded by yellow goldfield wildflowers that are a little past their prime. The three riders usually ride in separate practice groups but were part of a combined ride this day. I don't normally ride my ebike at practices, but did this day since I was feeling worn out. 4/12/25.
Members of the Newbury Park High School mountain bike team take a break at an overlook on the Lower Butte Trail, Thousand Oaks, CA. 4/12/25. Fog is visible in the distance and the ride began an hour earlier in the fog over in that direction. This is a Saturday practice that runs for 3 hours. The riders ranged from 6th graders to 10th graders and were accompanied by 5 adult coaches.
One of my favorite wildflower displays on a warm-up route that I ride as part bike team practices. The ground is covered with poppies with lupines mixed in and green weed grass. Partly sunny skies in the background, remnants of an earlier marine layer, and a single pine tree (with a picnic table underneath, not visible). Rancho Potrero Open Space, Thousand Oaks, CA. 4/15/25.

First Mt Bike ride of the season!
Mostly chainsaw work on a trail in Vermont: bike a 100ft or so, get chainsaw out of backpack to cut and clean blowdowns, repeat. Wonderful warm morning after a little early rain that freshened things up.

The one that got away: second battery ran out just as I was starting on this jumble of trees that toppled over the trail. Two low ones to cut, the upper ones might be fine as-is for now depending on what they’re leaning on.
