#ScribesAndMakers 10, Book cover you like.
I'm absolutely smitten with Andrew Lang's original 1900s fairy book covers, charmingly illustrated by Henry Justice Ford. So much so, that I've taken to recreating and restoring the covers in detail so I can make them into notebooks and preserve them.
Currently, I have three restoration designs, and I am working on the lilac one. For which I really could use some more detailed images, so if anyone has one.
Am browsing a Victorian sewing manual, as I am wont to do. Have one of those little decorative multi-tier tea service or cake stands taking up space in the cupboard, unused? Well, do the Victorians have a solution for you!
Embellish the heck out of the contraption and put some sewing things on it.
I need a semi-serious reassurance that the floor of my apartment won't collapse after another box (or three) of paper in the shape of old cooking books and some other books I've found while already in the rabbit hole.
Yesterday, looking for vague or definitive answers about the width and widening point of Victorian bicycling trousers, I also came across this book from the 1970s. "I'm just gonna leave this until morning", I thought, thus leaving myself a surprise because I forgot about it.
Shall delve into it and see if there's valuable data for us all in there!
Ladies, gentlemen and persons with gender beyond the ken of cis minds: I am firmly back on my bullshit, browsing Victorian sewing manuals.
Sure, I already found what I wanted, but I also have a dozen other tabs open!
I bought, and read, a book that was over 100 years old. It cost me £3.
Honestly I'm amazed by this. We must never not make books.
I love my e reader. But blimey. Paper books lasting 100+years and just being fine. Wonderful.

I bought a chest made out of brass and tin today, it was very unusual looking and on £5.
Amy just opened it and found these books in there. I am so very curious to get home and look at them.
Anyone heard of Virtue’s Household Physician ?
I have received a book that belonged to my grandmother. It is entitled “Enquire Within Upon Everything”; this edition was published in 1906.
As promised, it contains information on everything.
Some of my favourites are: a recipe for turnip wine, the rules of whist, and how to apply leeches for (very questionable) medical treatment.
I’ll be tooting excerpts from random pages.
This book was given to my grandmother in 1909, while she was living on Liugong Island in Weihaiwei #Oldbooks #BookOfEverything
My other hobby is collecting old #schoolbooks and cataloguing and researching them , which is why I ended up creating this website https://schoolreading70sbooks.weebly.com/maths-text-books.html #vintagebooks #oldbooks #nostalgia
#fleamarket today. Found some #books, the most interesting one is the following: it's an Italian translation of Paolo Giovio's Historiarum sui temporis (Histories of his time), 1608, printed in Venice. Sadly, only the second part. Binding's parchment is suffering signs of time, but not too badly.
Incision on frontespice depicts goddess Concordia (harmony/agreement in Latin).
