I just found a wonderful article about full recordings of operas! This should help me in my search for decent materials to listen to. But these are only commercial recordings, so I will need to look elsewhere for radio ones as well as recordings that were preserved by listeners. At any rate, I was surprised by how many singers' names I recognised, all from the 1940's and earlier, of course. But there were still a good number that I didn't know and must, therefore, research. I was also surprised that Enrico Caruso appears not to have made any full-length recordings, or even large sections of a single opera. Also, Dino Borgioli wasn't mentioned, and I know he made at least two sets, that, while weren't complete, were extensive.

The Assembly Hall, in the Red Cross Chambers, was well filled when the #gramophone recital given by Mr. Ryan, in aid of the funds of the Junior Red Cross, was held. The programme contained items of special interest to music lovers. At the conclusion of the recital verbal and written suggestions were handed m regarding several special items which will be included in future programmes. The next recital will be held on 17th March next. During the evening Miss Wilkinson had control of the instrument, which is electrical, and which was kindly lent by Mr. Ernest Dawson for the occasion.

A young friend—in fact the haver of Pepper the oft-written-about borrowed dog—has asked that I give her my record collection when I want to get rid of it.

I hope she fully appreciates the inconvenience of vinyl records.

They're heavy, bulky, and fiddly to take care of and play.

BUT — they're lovely to hold, to watch going around on the turntable, and the cover art is worth the trouble, if you like that kinda thing.

If I'm reading this right, "Tulip" is the CEO of "Outta Wax" in south Minneapolis.

"Most of all, they want to make sure that vinyl records are here to stay. Whether you got invested by a Taylor Swift limited edition vinyl, a family member’s passed down collection or the number one selling record of all time, Stillman and Pette want you to keep listening."

Dr. Ida Halpern and Kwakwaka'wakw artist and singer Chief Mungo Martin worked together in the early 1950s to preserve more than 100 traditional West Coast #songs from disappearing when the #potlatch ban forbid their use.

But did Halpern #betray the trust of Martin in the way she would go on to use the #recordings?

A film by #documentary producer and director Barbara Todd Hager on the subject is in the works.

I have no experience at all with #musicProduction techniques developed from the pop side of things. When people I follow here talk about their #mixing and #mastering methods, the effects they use, the gear… I honestly have no idea what you all are talking about. But I’m curious! Because I see a lot of people making polished #recordings at home, using #VST, #MIDI, their own instruments, I don’t know what else—and I’d like to be able to do that too. Where do I start? What do I need to know?
