#Trump asks #SCOTUS to allow enforcement of #transgender #military ban

Trump's administration asked the #US #SupremeCourt on Thursday to allow implementation of his order banning transgender people from serving in the military, one of a series of directives by the Republican president to curb #TransgenderRights.

"Bourgeois #democracy is democracy of pompous phrases, solemn words, exuberant promises and the high-sounding slogans of #freedom and #equality. But, in fact, it screens the non-freedom and inferiority of #women, the non-freedom and inferiority of the toilers and exploited …. There cannot be, nor is there nor will there ever be real 'freedom' as long as there is no freedom for women from the privileges which the law grants to men, as long as there is no freedom for the workers from the yoke of capital”

So…it’s Arab American Heritage Month. We’re already three weeks in, but I wanted to write about it all the same.

This feels especially important right now, given Israel’s genocide against Palestinians.

There are some public figures in my article that I bet you didn’t know were of Arab descent. Also some interesting stats.

The main issue with freeing the kids, is that kids cannot vote. This is not un-doable. With slaves, slaves could not vote. But there were enough non-slaves that agreed that slaves should be freed. So it passed through. With women rights until some point in time women couldn't vote too. But there were e...

I'll generalize this. "The more unequal society is, the more severe the disaster".

This goes for climate, healthcare, housing, economy, ...

Equality is a form of resilience. Although disasters can be equalizing (see Rebecca Solnit - A Paradise built in Hell), true billionaires / multi-millionaires will extract themselves from rebuilding a community by virtue of being supremely isolated and protected.

I'll never get tired of Helsinki Central Library Oodi. It was built as a present to people when Finland turned 100 a couple of years ago. It's across from the parliament so the power keepers would not who they work for. It has 3D printers, lazer cutters, sewing machines, instruments, audio and music studios, workspaces, and of course, a ton of books, all free to use and borrow with your library card. It's such a treat, so awesome values (the first picture is from the stairs where they have written who is welcome to Oodi - everyone), great symbolism, and neat things to do. And exceptional architecture!

Here's an even longer interview with Kathrine Switzer. I'm completely spellbound by her.

This story stirs up so many emotions. Why did it have to be that way for so long? And why are we still taking steps backward? What's wrong with people?
