Not at my uni, but at others, administrators rushed to take down DEI “content” from their websites after receiving the government’s odious “Dear colleague” letter.

Now the courts are weighing in and pushing back.

DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE.

It only gives momentum to the things you claim to oppose.

Texas Senate considers whether college students without legal status in U.S. should receive financial aid

State Sen. Mayes Middleton, the Galveston Republican who authored Senate Bill 1798, says it would amend state law so that students without legal status — including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients — would also have to pay out-of-state tuition rates to attend universities or colleges in Texas.

Haven't heard much talk of how abled people in the US are going to stand up for disabled people in this eugenicist fascist time.

One thing about the university having maintained a policing system for disabled people is that many profs and staff acted as if no accessibility could be had except through that system. So if it isn't being done through that system, fascists are likely to miss it.

That is: It is more important than ever to make your courses, workshops, symposia, etc as accessible as possible by default. Do not make it "accommodations" through the policing system, but something offered to everyone as part of how you design your course.

Captions by default, avoid strobing film/graphics by default, more accessible fonts by default, online accessibility and flexibility by default. Don't highlight it as "accessibility", just BE AS ACCESSIBLE AS POSSIBLE as your normal modus operandi. #HigherEd #USpol @academicchatter @disability

Report: "Trump Officials Blame Mistake for Setting Off Confrontation With Harvard"

But despite claiming the demand letter should not have been sent, the administration did not withdraw it.

The letter included demands about hiring, admissions & curriculum that were "so onerous that school officials decided they had no choice but to take on the White House."

There is a hashtag now on Linkedin making the rounds: #IkBenEenPsycholoog ( #IAmAPsychologist ). This followed a statement by a politician that it´s "nonsense" to teach psychology in English, Dutch is just fine, since "all psychologists do is talk with people".

It has been amazing to see just how broad our field is- I, too, am a psychologist, and my work involves no sofas. Clinical psychology is absolutely important and relevant, but there is more!

💥 Another new piece from me. It drives me up the wall that those seeking to tear down humanities programs use arguments that fundamentally contradict each other. I call BS, and argue that the inconsistency reveals a pervasive fear of critical thought and social change. In @insidehighered
