"framework called “Three Zero”, referring to zero #carbon #emissions, zero #wealthconcentration & zero #unemployment. Prof #Yunus argued tt #business in tis new civilisation mustn't be driven by #greed, which he warned inevitably leads to #wealth accumul'g among a select few.. He criticised modern #society’s deep-rooted #consumerism, stating tt e pursuit of tis at all costs has led to #unsustainable waste & environ'al degradation"

That flight I was hoping would stay cheap managed to stay. We didn't get the lowest fare I had seen (<$500) but snagged a $690 one way Westjet ticket, Nanaimo to Barcelona; cancellable/changeable and includes seats, checked bag, and carry-on. Incredible value.

It's also the lowest CO2 hit by air from Western Canada.

Hardware: (Canadian made) Dash 8 Turboprop from Nanaimo to Calgary (93kg pp) and B787 to Barcelona (425kg pp).

There are no direct flights to Spain west of Calgary. I'm frankly shocked AC or WS don't have a B777 or B787 in the summer and winter from Vancouver to Barcelona… it would fill! Perhaps its capacity on the Barcelona side that is full up.

I love the Dash 8. A little noisy compared to a standard jet, but I really like the feel of smaller aircraft. And they generally fly lower, so the views over the rockies especially are fantastic.

this isn’t just about losing #biodiversity —it’s about losing the foundations of life itself. #forests that store #carbon, wetlands that filter #water, #insects that pollinate our food—all of it is at risk. but beyond the material loss, there’s something deeper: the grief of watching the world grow emptier, the cultural devastation for those whose traditions are tied to these disappearing #landscapes. we are not separate from nature. when #species vanish, we lose a part of ourselves too.

Fuckit, often the subject of heated debate on the internet, is a salt containing #iron and #uranium, #carbon and #potassium.

➞ Uranium, which provides energy and makes objects explode, and carbon, which forms compounds.

➞ Potassium plays a role in nerve impulses, muscle contractions and blood pressure regulation.

➞ Fuckit is able to simply spoil any topic, raise blood pressure and cause explosive reactions.

Bottom trawling in European waters costs society up to €11bn a year, new study finds.

A first-of-its-kind study released today found that this cost is largely due to carbon dioxide emissions from disturbed sediments on the seafloor.

The study is the first to measure the full economic cost of bottom trawling in European waters - including the EU, UK, Norway and Iceland.

World’s largely unprotected #peatlands are ticking ‘#carbon bomb’, warns study
Global assessment found only 17% of peatlands were protected. This contrasted starkly with other valuable ecosystems such as tropical forests, 38% protected, and mangroves (42%). Protection was even lower than 17% in three nations with the most peatlands: #Canada, #Russia and #Indonesia. #US and #Brazil completed top five nations, which contained almost three-quarters of all peatlands.

what if international air travel was limited so that there was only one international airport in a range of 1500km, or country.

So Vancouver would be the only International aiprort in BC, but Seattle or Portland would still be the PNW hub for the USA.

And those international airports could only have one flight between any other international airport.

This would:

a) greatly increase the use of land-based options for 1000km+ distances (which can then be electrified)

b) Incentivizes plane manufacturers to build more efficient, large planes that can take a larger number of people efficiently, rather than smaller planes that are cheaper to build, but proliferate, doubling/tripling the fuel use.
