I told another couple of people at work that I am autistic and they didn't seem surprised or hugely curious. I think I have built telling people to be the size of a cow but it's actually just a slightly interesting factoid for them.

At dinner this evening my daughter mentioned that in something she watched someone got shocked and horrified reactions to saying they were autistic.
"So ridiculous, it's only autism, it's not like they have stage 4 cancer!" She's 9, and probably autistic.

I feel like this is me, at least a few times a week.

Something that I have long suspected, talking to another neurodiverse person is like speaking in another language, I often feel like I'm not even the same species as neurotypical people.

"Sasson and colleagues, in 2017 for example, found that neurotypical people quickly and subconsciously identified that a stranger is autistic, often within milliseconds of meeting them. They don't realise that they have identified the person as autistic, though. They just think the autistic person is 'weird'.

Participants in the study were less interested in engaging in conversation with autistic people and liked them less than non-autistics. All based on a brief moment of social data.

It is important to point out that the autistic people in this study didn't do anything wrong. Their behaviour was perfectly socially appropriate, as was the content of their speech. Though they tried their damnedest to present as neurotypical, their performance had some key tells and was just slightly off and they were disliked because of it."

Sometimes I wonder if I should just "pull myself together" and then at other times I think that in some in some idealized future people like me will be diagnosed early and allowed enough sleep and given opportunities to help society with their weird ideas.

1. We autistic people don't grow up learning social rules the way other people do. That affects how I text others bc texting is full of social rules. Most autistic people are ok texting.

I heard Annihilation was about grief or relationships. I'm interested af in Scavenger's Reign.

I feel like we have a rough indentation / substructure of how we will process things from birth, but that every event thereon will shape it further.

As well, we know ourselves in reference to others: "I'm like A, not like B, but most like C. What lies beyond C? I might see myself reflected best over there."

"Rules do not exist to bind you; they exist so you may know your freedoms."
Parameters outline a given environment within which to experiment and explore. It's one antidote to Blank Page Syndrome, for example.

I have to disagree entirely about personifying the automated house in There Will Come Soft Rains (fantastic name), but otherwise yes. This is exactly my understanding.
