Practiced both timing and public speaking last night. At a school board meeting, but it's a transferrable skill. Wrote an inside joke that got the laugh.

Got wheels back under my feet, several months after strain injury. Hopefully I can temper myself with patience and have no repeats that caused the hold up.

We're sleeping in later these days, it's nice.

ambivalent thing: I dreamed of an asparagus monster. I love asparagus, and no one prepared me for this.

- My partner has been really sweet to me while I've been feeling blah.

- I had the opportunity twice yesterday to be a bystander to something bad, but I took action instead.

1. A sparrowhawk visited our garden today!!! Sat on the patio fence and looked right at me. I think just like other visiting birds that have started looking toward the window a lot, it wanted me to refill the feeder… So the pigeons will come back, thereby filling HIS feeder.

2. Perfume smells like Lemon cake and summer

3. Finally got results from an annoying series of phone calls I’ve been making since the beginning of last week.

1. Coyotes! Enjoy 6 seconds of my trail cam video below. Wait for the second coyote to run through glaring at the camera.

2. Two measures FAILED to pass a vote by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. Amendment 7 would have required participation in girls’ sports be limited to people born biologically female.

3. Amendment 8 would have created a separate division for transgender athletes.

1. Did some (overdue) tidying.

2. I started one of those baby blankets (a small Shifting Hues Afghan for any knitters out there) and it’s so satisfying.

3. The Beef made burgers! I have a Bit that I do whenever he says he’s going to make burgers. I’ve been doing it for a year but he laughs every time.

Today's good things included:

- fresh Easter wreath. Tasty.

- good, respectful, ecumenical discussions about religion here and IRL. Also nourishing, so to speak.

- kids and neighbor kids running around hunting Easter eggs in the forest. Heartwarming.

- I had dinner with a friend from graduate school whom I had not see for a number of years. She asked what I was reading, so I showed her my copy of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's "Americanah". It turns out she is reading it at the moment too! We're both enjoying it a lot.

- I was in a hurry so I stopped at Taco Cabana for lunch and ordered the steak taco combo. I was pleasantly surprised by both the tacos and the inclusion of chips and queso.

- I bought some Clawhammer peppermints partly because I wanted some mints and partly because I liked the design on the tin. I was pleased to see after my purchase that they are made in Canada. If you are in the USA, don't buy them from Amazon, because they are horribly overpriced there.

Foodie things because it's time to start cooking for Mom for next week (and us):
Tweaked my oven-baked brisket recipe with best results yet.

Orange-flavored cake with chocolate frosting, made with Arrowhead Mills egg substitute. Yum yum yum!

Monthly primary provisioning done. Prepping fresh spinach to dry/freeze. Bundles are much bigger than expected, but that's a good thing.

Bonus: LOTS of kitty snuggles and lovin' today!

Thursday, April 17

1. Coffee (the first I’ve had in a couple of months) & cake for breakfast. Yum.
2. Received a sweet gift of a succulent dish garden — my very first in a lifetime of gardening.
3. Found a hidden grove of blooming “Ingrid Bergman” roses growing at least 15 feet straight up to find sunlight. Amazing what a bit of shrub trimming accomplished, and also amazing how persistent roses can be.

Against expectations--but not hope--we found a pair of shoes for Hubby that fit his hard-to-fit feet and feel comfortable. They were on sale! And...they're grass green. Oh well, they're just for around the house, and it meant he could give a hard pass to the neon yellow 'clown' shoes.

Kefir! Kefir! Kefir!

Pulled pork gifted by Sister is very tasty. I don't have to cook today.
