This is a bidirectional #bicycle path that goes underneath one arm of a roundabout to avoid conflict between peds, cyclists and cars. Why not a bridge, you may ask. A downwards slope creates momentum that you can use to go up at the other end.

A few weeks ago @notjustbikes released a video on Klinkers, the standardized bricks used for paving in the Netherlands. Today, on a bike ride near Sint Michielsgestel (near 's-Hertogenbosch), I found odd 'ribbed' klinkers used as lane markers in the bike lane.
Just because I'm a weirdo, I made a 3D model of the klinker, and subsequently an animation of it.
Gif Attached, but if that doesnt work: https://garrettspeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/ribbedanimatedpleasure_i30o5.gif

And the second (and last) clip: I was just smiling at this panorama. Spring all around with some snow still on the mountain tops ...
Well it made me smile, maybe it makes you smile as well.
I have exciting news to share. Version 2.0 of the @CyclingGuide mobile app is now available in Google Play Store for Android and the App Store for iPhone. It has plenty of improvements. See the details here, and please try it out if you haven’t before. Did I mention that I'm excited?
Happy cycling!

Little lunch blast on the newly rebuilt old trek sl1200. It's a nippy little thing! I dunno why I keep tinkering on it though as, despite seat adjusment and a looong stem, it's too small for me! If anyone has a 58/60cm, similar era, rim brake, 135mm quick release frame heading for a skip... message me! #Biketooter #bikesofmastodon #scrappyracer
I cannot get over how accurately @pete described one of the big conundrums in road traffic the other day:
"How little space a cyclist needs to filter through stopped motor traffic but conversely how much space is required to make a cyclist feel safe when that same traffic is moving."
It's entirely possible that the only way to help people understand this is to let them ride in traffic. At the base is the realisation that a moving vehicle is a danger to everybody around it.
First time I spot an electric side by side tricycle. Btw the dots on the bridge delineate peds from cyclists but both ignore this, as #Dutch do.
Some surprising news: a #perth driver was issued an infringement for close passing a #cyclist from video evidence. Was expecting the “it’s difficult to prove” speech like usual. #biketooter
New #Ottawa bike commute video is done for the month of March!
Snow is finally melting and the paths are clear again. Well, except for those blocked by cars of course!
Also damage that was quickly fixed thanks to McCrank's!
Somewhat scary incident with cherry picker as well.
We had a great time at Bike Camp! Really fun to get a glimpse of the bike communities in Chattanooga. Also watched a screening under the stars of the documentary about Lael Wilcox’s ride around the world, with Q&A from Lael & her wife Ru. Fun (yet moderately terrifying bc partially gravel & on the edge of Signal Mountain) group ride back into Chatt today. Cold night but we were ok with our camping gear - frost this morning! #BikeTooter
@greyllama
Anyway, being me, it naturally started getting out of hand and now I'm also maintaining a Newcastle map so I can link the Seattle and Eastside on the south end, too, and also, with this expansion, the Greater Northshore covers just as much area as any of the other maps all by itself so _I_ say we're a peer map now.
I'm also thinking of filling in a little south of Seattle, where the City of Seattle map ends. But I need to finish this Snohomish County expansion first, obviously.
@greyllama Not of which I'm aware, but I haven't looked.
I started making this map (and the companion MEGAMAP, which goes down to Renton) after...
okay so. Seattle's had a good bike map for ages. King County did a long time ago, but quit except for the regional trails map. I kept hoping they'd bring the detailed map back, but they didn't, and then the 2 Line Connector popped up on the Eastside and I was like "okay THAT'S it" and made the Greater Northshore to connect them, because island maps are fine but connected maps are geometrically more useful.
Hey, anybody bike in Snohomish county? I've extended the Greater Northshore Bike Connector Map further north, up up Lynnwood City Centre. I'm sure I'm missing stuff so... help me out? Tell me what I've missed?

This post sparked some interesting conversations. Sciatica affects so many people in so many different ways.
riding bikes every day until I can’t for some reason, day 1693
Just downloading an app to connect to my derailleur, as one does.
@meganL I watched this with my wife this morning and we agreed that her balance issues are too great for us to tandem, but I am seriously considering buying the #Lectric long-range XP LIte for myself. The step-thru XP 3.0 feels like it would be preferable because I haven't used a single-gear bike since I was 8 years old, but the 21-pound difference in weight means a lot to me.
Have you used either of them?
